Well, here it is, everyone... a new discovery! Officially NCC-1704, Constitution-Class Starship, I present to you the U.S.S. Discovery!
Based on blueprints I purchased decades ago during Star Trek's heyday, the model itself is now complete!
Why Discovery? Well, several reasons. First, there didn't appear to be a Constitution-Class starship by that name. Second, it brought to mind the Space Shuttle Discovery. And third, I actually discovered that I had to modify the edge flow of the model to compensate for distortion of the UVs when I applied "three-key" smoothing!
While the edge flow was somewhat complex, the layout of the texture for the Discovery was actually fairly simplistic, as you can see above.
It has been a challenge to model, but I am happy with how it turned out!
Now I just have to animate it and produce a video! Can't wait to see how that turns out!
